Red colour problems on Studio 17 Laptop screen, any ideas?

Hi,

My Studio 17 laptop screen has problems with red colours. There is a wiggly red pattern in the background all the time and black displays as red. See the photos below (apologies for the poor quality of the photos, my camera struggles to focus on a backlit screen).

At first the problem was intermittent. Sometimes when I shut it down or wiggled the lid it would go away. Now it is there all the time.

PS My warranty has expired so I'm quite happy to open it up and have a look if anyone thinks that's a good idea?!
