Really *weird* hardware damage
Today, I tried to open up my Inspiron 8200, but the display would not open. No matter what, I could not get the screen up. Sensing something was going on, I took the system apart. Upon removing the LCD, I realized that I am possibly the first Inspiron user this has happened to. Observe:
This is the unbroken LCD support clasp on the left side of my LCD screen.
And this would be the broken clasp. Neeedless to say, this is the reason that I cannot use my system. This does seem extremely, extremely weird. I've never heard of this part breaking before. Come to think of it, I've never heard of this part before.
It looks like I'll need a new LCD or at least a new one of these clasps. Because I have committed the heinous crime of being 1 month out of warranty, Dell wont lift a finger to help me out. Does anyone know any places in or around the Manhattan area which can either help me fix this or sell the part needed?
Failing that, does anyone know how to get a new LCD/LCD clasp from Dell?

Crazy, there was a post within the past 4-5 days with someone with the exact same problem -- a helpful forum member posted the part number for replacement, and I think it was about $5 + shipping.
Try a search of the forum?

Edit -
Try sending a PM to user johnallg and see if he has a part number -- he posted on every thread that came up in a search and he's very helpful.

The only Post that I remember over the last few days was for an Inspiron 7500. But then again, John did give the part information.
Message edit:
You could buy the LCD cover and just use the hinges. I found This One on ebay and the going bid is now $13.50 USD.

IT'S FIXED!!! IT'S FIXED!!!!!
After some Internet spelunking, I located this:
http://parts-people.com/index.php?action=item&id=94&prevaction=category&previd=2&prevstart=0
The nice UPS man dropped it off at my University this morning, and an hour later, I was once again treated to the comforting glow of a glorious 1600x1200 UXGA screen!!

Really?
I learned it from T.V. See, you can learn as much from T.V. as you can from any classroom!

[worthless factoid]
The english word is derived from the latin spelunca, originally borrowed from the Greek spelaion, which means simply 'cave'. Thanks to Plato's famous allegory for that one.
