My back-light keyboard no longer works?

Today I turn my laptop on and log into windows like normal.  I'm using it for about 30 seconds and then suddenly screen starts flashing a bunch of random colors for about 5 seconds and then shuts off.  I was freaked out but I turned the laptop on and everything booted up like normal again.  the only thing is the back-light keyboard no longer works.  I've tried everything the fn f6 thing, I re installed the quickest drivers, I updated the graphics drivers, I updated the windows drivers, I turned the laptop off and pulled out the battery and held the power button for 30 seconds. Nothing works.  The back-light option longer shows up in the quickset list either.  and when i try to open BacklitKB.exe it simply says "unable to detect the backlight keyboard."  This is super annoying and I'm completely annoyed.  Anybody have any ideas before I disassemble the keyboard and stick it back in.  I really don't want to re-install windows again.
