M6500 Maximum Memory / Specs for same
Recently picked up a Precision M6500 with an i5 - 520m CPU. It has two DIMM slots which currently have 2 x 2GB DDR3 @ 1066mhz ram in them.
I am wanting to max out the memory in this machine, but I have read several different specifications as to what the maximum memory actually can be.
It seems that the higher M6500's with Quad processors can do 4 x.8GB DIMMS since they have 4 DIMM slots (instead of 2), and they can handle 1600mhz and 1333mhz memory.
However, the lower level CPUs like the i5-520m can only handle 2 x 4GB DIMMS at 1333mhz or lower.
Is this accurate or is it possible to get 2 x 8GB (for 16GB) of memory in this machine?
Any help on this would be appreciated.

Has anyone got this resolved yet? I've got an M6500 i5 Dual Core that's got 8 GB RAM that I'd love to take to 16 if possible. Seems it is possible but there's not been an answer in this forum.

After reading this and doing my own research, it appears it is the processor that is the issue. You can see this at http://ark.intel.com/ by searching your CPU type. For me that was a i5-560M. There it specifically states that:
Now, I am not reading this as Max Memory Size/SIM, but Max Memory Size TOTAL. I came to this conclusion by looking at the stats for the i5-2430M
as there is no such thing as a single 16 GB SIM
It appears, according to http://ark.intel.com/products/series/46476/Intel-Core-i5-500-Mobile-Processor-Series#@All, that all 500M series is limited to 8 GB TOTAL.
Since the two laptops I just bought are used and are coming with 6 GB (1x2GB and 1x4GB SIMs) and I want the full 8, I will be buying the 8GB Kit (4GBx2) at http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/precision-m6500-%28dual-core%29/CT2294897 and taking the 2x2GB SIMs out, putting the 2x4GB old SIMs in one and the new git in another. If all goes well, the new kit will work. When I have done this I will repost.
Conclusion: If you have a M6500 with an dual-core i5-5x0M CPU, you will be MAXed at 8 GBs.
I hope this has helped.

I read somewhere that the Intel® Core™ i5 supports 1066mhx memory, even if you put in faster Dimms.
