M1730 sub-par performance Am I alone?
So i bought a $4,500 machine, thats supposedly intended for gaming, i load up WoW (a 4 year old game) and its not going over 26 FPS on major cities, Unreal Tournament 3? lol that would be the day when it runs over 15FPS on acceptable settings.
Ud think its normal "laptops cant do that" stuff but its wrong, i have a 7950GT XPS 1710 and that runs FINE at 43 FPS in wow and 25 in UT3.
so seriously am i missing something here?
Im currently using XP SP2, Nvidia Forceware 169.23 and yes the laptop is running in SLI.
I havnt found a single game this machine can run at a decent framerate.
If my XPS 1710 wasnt running better id understand but seriously people am i the only one getting this stupid framerate off my machine?
Dont even get me started on vista, it was so slow i could barely exit UT3 from the sluggishness.
Stats are:
XPS 1730
4gb Ram, 400gb (200x2 7200 Raid 0)
8700 SLI
2.4ghz non extreme processor.
And to all those with extreme processors, if you are going to say "all games run fine in mine" and you have an extreme processor thats because your processor is picking up the videocards slack, while it does the job it thats not how it should be, the 1710 i got has a core 2 duo 2.2 and no extreme and outperforms this machine so bad it hurts.

Because i can get wow to run smooth at 1650x1200 with everything - in game - on high but if i place the nvidia options on the control panel to high and try to run it at 1920x1200 it gives 24-29fps, and drops to 12-16 when i move around

I didn't have fraps running but it felt smooth and responsive even when mad stuff was going on. I'd say at least 50fps.
We were using Dell drivers but not sure if the ones we used were available to the public yet.
The hardware can definitely handly all the games you described it'd just a matter of software/drivers. Use the latest available Dell supplied drivers and you should be ok.
Crysis would be the exception and had to turn that down to about 1650 to play on max as 1920 was sluggish.
Unfortunately, I don't get to review the laptops or take them home so can't do any tests for you (I personally have the 1530). But can assure you it looked kickass when I did get to play on it. Think my next lappy will have a 8800 GTS/GTX card though.
