Do you mean that you have lost the Windows password and you cannot get into Windows?

Or do you mean that you have lost the bios password and cannot start the system.

Or what exactly?

The Windows account and password will be something that the person who setup the laptop, out of the box, established. If there is another account on the laptop with administrator rights then you can log in using that account and reset the password for the account you have lost the password for.

You can format the hard drive and re-install Windows.

There are several utilities out there that can change or delete passwords for Windows accounts. And I mean change or delete. Don't be tempted by anything that says it will display the currrent password.

NB if you use one of these utilities and you have encrypted files on the hard drive then you will lose access to those files.

Plenty of hits if you google the subject.

These utilities are typically run from a booted CD or USB flash drive and the best are LINUX based.

I can't remember what the one I use is called as I don't have it to hand, however I do recall that the utility on the UBCD (Ultimate Boot CD) seemed to work OK. So I suggest you try that..

Be aware that if you don't know what you are doing or if there is any file system corruption (affecting the registry files) you can very easily wreck your Windows installation, resulting in data loss and a clean re-install. So please make sure you understand what you are about first.
