Latitude E6500 driver-problem after repartitioning the system and reinstalling xp
Hi there,
my e6500 arrived a few days ago and i'm very happy with it so far.
But after partitioning ( i also deleted the dell partition ) and setting up a new Windows XP system, i*ve got some driver problems.
Like dell recommended i installed the dell-system-software first. But somehow i never saw a programm icon or entry. So i can't say if it's installed correctly.
I'm quite sure i got all the other drivers for my system ( selected by service-tag ).
When checking my device-manager, i see the following entries with question marks:
- Contacted SmartCard
- PCI-Communication-Controler (simple) (not sure with translation)
- PCI-Serial-Adapter
I hope you got some advice which drivers i should get and how to deal with this dell-system-software ( if it has something to do with the missing drivers).
Is there a link between this software and the dell-system-partition which i got rid off?

I installed all three of them. The dell software more than once. But like i said, i have no evidence for this software. No entry in the software-list, or in the startup-menu / preferences. Dunno what else to do.
I guess for the card reader i need the ControlPoint software but after installing this software, i couldn't get my WiFi working, so i dumped it again and went with the XP-OS-solution.
No idea why the PCI is still tagged with the question mark.

Dell system software is completely behind the scenes. You won't find any evidence of it anywhere. No icons, no listing, nothing.

Thanks Mary, good to know. Then the dell-software should be fine, too.
At least i could get rid of the cardreader driver prob. XP update fixed it.
The pci issue is still arround and makes me mad :/

Anyone an idea how to approacht this prob? Is it a big loss of performance or unstable my system when i ignore it?
Please give me some input :)
