Latitude E6220 RAM upgrade questions

Getting a Latitude from my dad with 4GB RAM, and a dual-core i5. Not very impressive, since he has used it before me. Therefore I'm installing a SSD this week, but also looking to upgrade RAM. Here comes the questions;

The computer can handle 8gb, and runs a 64-bit Win7. I want to have 2x4gb, but I have read somewhere that mixing two different 4gb Rams could not work. Is this true? If I find, say a Kingston, that has the same specs DDR3, SO Dimm 204-pin, 1333Hz, can I combine it with the already existing one? Is it worth replacing anyways? Anything else I should know?

Good day !

Thank you for writing to the Dell Community Forum.

In this case this system can support upto maximum of 8gb ,but if it has  32-bit operating systems then it can use a maximum of 4GB of address space.

Also the memory stick that you are planning to install should be of the same type (i,e DDR3 ) as the first one  and it will be best if its of same frequency else the system will adjust itself to the lower frequency but then there may be some performance issues.

If there are any concerns do reply to this post .

Kind Regards,

Hi Jennifer,

My system runs a 64-bit Win7. What I'm wondering more specifically is if I can combine any memory-stick with the one I already have installed (original). For it to work as it should, is it only the Ddr3 that has to match, or all the other stats as well (1333mHz for example)? Will a 1600mHz work? It has to be a SO-DIMM, right? Will any SO-DIMM with 1333-1600mHz work, or is there anything special here?

Please answer all of this so that I don't go wrong here.

Endre

Hi Endre,

Thank you for writing back to us!

The memory stick which you are planning to upgrade should be a SODIMM ,DDR3 is a must. Also the system will adapt itself and work with the lowest frequency range.

I hope this helps. Please feel free to write to us in case of any further queries.
Have a good day!

Kindest Regards,
Jennifer S Kumar
