Latitude E Series - when?

Intel have now released Centrino 2. When can we expect to see Dell release the Latitude E series?

Montevina was released today. This has to be one of the most anticipated releases from Intel in a long time - I'd expect Dell to be more than ready. Anyone here in the know?

Not long after Intel officially releases the Montevina platform.

Toshiba, IBM Lenovo, and Sony have all announced release of Centrino 2 notebooks following the Intel rellease. As usual no news from Dell.  Terribly arrogant of them. Buy the others.

Perhaps not - availability of the new CPUs is limited for now, and Dell may be letting the others take the heat for announcing product they can't yet ship in volume.

The problem is, if you are in the market for a laptop that will support 8gb RAM, HP and Lenovo have Santa Rosa based models that will accommodate this. The only Dell laptop that will use 4gb DIMMS is the M6300 which has no provision for a second drive. So, without any pricing or delivery information to base a decision on, the HP 8510w or Thinkpad T61p is going to get my money.

Oh, and since Centrino 2 is now imminent there are good deals to be had on the 965 based systems. It is a shame too, I would prefer a Dell, but my patience has been stretched too far (long story).

Dell should release some new information about the E series soon. At the very least, they should confirm product availability of this series for customers who are waiting for this information.

If they are planning to release them in August, I may be able to wait, but if they won't be released until late September or October, then I'll have no choice but to buy a different machine. I also have my eye on a few Lenovo and Sony laptops right now.

Hurry up Dell!

The Centrino 2 CPU itself is already being sold by resellers.  Where is Dell? Having design / manufacturing problems?

2 weeks later and still no news...

The only more recent information I can find is here: http://techtipsforparents.org/?p=190

Suggesting the E series will launch on August 12th.

Does anyone here have more concrete info?
