Latitude D630 won't boot!

I have a Dell Latitude D630, Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.5 GHz. I have Microsoft flight simulator x installed on it. The game runs smoothly with no errors. But yesterday, after I was done on the computer, I closed the lid and dint shut it off. When I tried to use today, it showed a blue screen error. I used the power button to restart the computer. It took me to the boot menu. I selected "Start Windows Normally", but it just froze up and it wouldn't boot. I tried other options, but no luck. And I also powered up on A/C power only and removed and cleaned my HDD, but nothing works. Any help, please?

Hi BoeingAirbus2016,

As the system is not booting into windows you can try to repair the computer from the Operating system disk. If you have the disks please follow the steps to repair your computer :

  1. Boot your computer from the CD/DVD and choosing the Repair Your Computer option.
  2. Choose your operating system and click Next. A list of system recovery options will appear. Here you should choose Startup Repair.
  3. Startup Repair will automatically find problems with your computer and try to repair it. Once it’s finished, restart your computer and see if your problem has gone away.

If the problem persists then you need to do a manual reinstallation of the operating system in the computer and download the drivers.

Note: In the process of reinstalling operating system you will lose all the data in the computer.

Please reply for further help.

Hi BoeingAirbus2016,

Try the below steps:

  1. Remove all the external peripherals, the power cable and battery from the laptop, press and hold the power button for 20 seconds. This process will drain all the static energy from the computer.
  2. Power on the laptop with only the battery plugged in or only the power cable to check if it is a problem with battery or AC adapter.
  3. Now try running diagnostics by switching on the desktop/laptop computer by tapping F12 at dell logo to enter “One-time boot menu”.
  4. If the F12 option is not working for laptop then try running diagnostics by press and holding the Fn button and power on the laptop and select diagnostics from the list. If the diagnostics displays an error, please reply with the right error message.
  5. If unable to run the diagnostics check for beep sound or flashing lock lights when the system is turned on.

Please reply the results along with the operating system and errors on the screen.

I have run the diagnostics and all systems checks out. I'm letting the laptop cool down now with all the static energy drained. The problem starts after I power up. It powers up fine, so it's not an A/C adapter or battery problem. The laptop loads fine at the Dell splash screen. But then the laptop takes me to a black screen with texts that say, "Windows wasn't shuttled down properly after the last session. Please select the following options to boot up your computer." Or something similar to that. I selected every option, from Safe Mode to Start Windows Normally. But the laptop freezes right after I select the options. It even freezes when I let the computer boot up by itself.

There were no errors and my OS is Windows XP.

Here's a picture of when my laptop freezes. It freezes no matter what option I choose.

Yeah, I would do that, but my D630 was a hand-me-down and it was my dad's old work computer that was origionally owned by my dad's company, so so I don't have the Operating System disc. Help?

Hi BoeingAirbus2016,

I see that you are in need of windows operating system disks to reinstall it in your Dell computer.

I will check with availability of the operating system which was pre-installed in the computer and resource disk for downloading the drivers and send it to you.

Please private message the system service tag, contact number and registered owner’s name and the address where you want the disks to be sent.

Thanks. But I have a few concerns:

1. You mentioned the Windows OS disks. Does that include the recovery disk and the drivers and utilities disk?

2. Do you send the CDs free of charge or with payment?

I can provide all of the info you requested except for the registered owner's name, since the laptop originally belonged to my day's company. I'll try to get the info as soon as possible.

Hi BoeingAirbus2016,

The drivers will be available for system on support web site.

Please visit www.support.dell.com  for downloading the drivers for the system.

Regarding the windows operating system disk, I would need to check the warranty status before I go ahead and dispatch.

So please private message me the details of the system for further help.

Please forgive the intrusion but what if in having this same problem WITH OS disc the same make of laptop does not recognize that a disc is being used and start up repair options listed have all been tried but say that the problem could not be fixed but gives the clue that hard drive cannot be found? Still having said problem. Any help would be HUGEly appreciated.

Press F2 at powerup and check to see if the hard drive shows.  If it does not, unplug the system, remove or disconnect the battery, and remove and reinstall the hard drive.  If it's then found, run a diagnostic on it (F12 at powerup).  If it's not, it's toast - replace the drive.
