Laptop won't switch on

Hi I've got a Dell Inspiron N5110 It was working perfectly fin till last night I just tried switching it on now and it isn't working.... It comes up with an error message and gives me 2 options: to launch repair or to start normally If I choose start normally it keeps shutting down and switching on and displays the same error message If I choose launch repair, the dell background screen comes on but nothing else, it doesn't have the log on screen or anything else, just the blue background and the cursor I have no idea what's wrong and my warranty has expired... Would be grateful if anyone could help Thank you!

Hi priyax,

I request you to shut the system down, remove the battery and disconnect the ac adapter, press and hold the power button for 20 to 30 seconds.  Now connect only the ac adapter and wait for 30 seconds and turn on the system.

Also I recommend you to run diagnostics on the system. To run diagnostics restart the system and at the Dell logo tap the F12 key every two seconds. This will start the One-time boot menu. Using arrow keys select ‘Diagnostics’ and hit enter. This will run diagnostics on the hardware components of the system which may take around 5 minutes. Please reply to this post in case of any error message.

"Testing completed: one or more errors were detected"

It seems to me the error is in "Hard Drive O" which is what has a Red Cross next to it

You need to replace your hard drive with a new one - then reload the operating system and restore your backups.

It is a hard drive error, all the other devices have a green tick next to them, hard drive had a Red Cross next to it...

No, there isn't - you need a new drive.

Is there no other way to fix it?

The hard drive itself should run $50-75.  On this model, the drive is difficult to replace - if you can't do it  yourself (it requires removing just about every internal component inside the system), add another fee for an hour or so labor with a shop - probably another $75+ -- to replace the drive.

Do you know approximately how much that would cost?

Thanks for all the help!
