Laptop Doesn't recognize my fingerprint reader.

I got my Studio 1735 with Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit on it, but recently installed Windows 7 Professional 64-bit on it and now I can't get my AuthenTech fingerprint reader to work. I am able to install the Digital Persona software, but it keeps saying that the laptop does not recognize the fingerprint reader. I have tried to use the Dell software downloader program that I supposedly need to download any drivers and software from the Dell website. Everytime that I try to download the newest driver for my fingerprint reader, it acts like its downloading and then a type of error message comes up saying that I haven't added any downloads to my list. The problem i am having is that even when i click on the 'add to list' which later turns to 'added to your list', I still cannot download the file... am i doing something wrong here?

I researched my CPU and did find that it is 64-bit compatible.

I also tried to use Vista drivers for it, and still, nothing.

princemm82,

Did you try installing the FingerPrint Reader using the disk that came with the computer?

Did you try installing the Fingerprint software in the Vista Compatibility mode

Did you try using Authentec AES2810 (Fingerprint Reader W7 64-bit)

When I installed Windows 7 on my laptop, I am pretty sure that I installed it over the top of Windows Vista. I figured that if something like this was going to happen, then I would have the drivers that were used in Vista, after Windows 7 was installed all of the other drivers automatically worked without problems, it's just my fingerprint reader that won't work.

As i stated in my last post, I tried using the Dell Driver download page and I can't seem to figure out how to work their downloading system. I thought that it was just 'click download and the download starts'... like any other download, but it isn't like that at all.

This is the screen that I end up with:

princemm82,

When you installed Windows 7 (32-bit or 64-bit) did you install the desktop/notebook utility and the chipset drivers first? If not the rest of the drivers will fail to install. How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order If you cannot find Windows 7 drivers, then try using the Vista (or XP) 32-bit drivers, for Windows 7 32-bit of the Vista (or XP) 64-bit drivers for Windows 7 64-bit and install the drivers in the Compatibility mode

I'm guessing it's a driver issue. I've had the same issue in the past. PudgyOne's reply very well may work, but that's not the avenue I took.

I've found the the drivers through Windows update are not enough. In fact, if Windows Update for drivers is used, it will probably mess it up.

I've found 2 ways that do worked for me.

1) Download the driver pack from dell for the next up studio that shows it came w/Windows x64. Then disconnect from the internet & uninstall your existing drivers for your AES2810 & uninstall Digital persona. Reboot. Install the new drivers you downloaded. Reboot. Re-install Digital persona. Reboot. Then it worked for me.

2) (And my personal preference) Disconnect from the internet. Uninstall the drivers for your AES2810. Uninstall Digital Persona. Re-connect to the internet, but stop the automatic update for the hardware. Install the trial of Digital Persona 5.0 (store.authentec.com/.../Default.aspx). Reboot and the trial will work. Further, If you then uninstall Digital Persona 5 (but don't delete your biometric settings as Digital Persona suggests), your enrolled fingerprints will still work for Windows login. You loose any website fingerprint access, but for me, I just want it for windows anyway.
