keyboard typing slow laptop

I have a basic Vostro 1000 very similiar to a Insprion 1500.  Keyboard slowed way down, would not keep up with typing on sceen.  Scanned it for malware, defrag, uninstalled keyboard driver, NON of this helped.

Found a forum on tomshardware, couple other people having same problem.  Solution, take out laptop battery and restart computer without battery installed, yes you have to have the AC adapter plugged in.  Totally solved the problem, unbelievable that the battery could have this type of adverse impact but it does....

Please pass this info to everyone, very easy fix and very difficult to figure out a fix.

Thanks for the info.  I have a Inspiron 1501 with this lag problem.  I did take out the battery and start it on AC power and it worked.  However, as soon as I put the battery back in, it reverted back tot he same problem.  Do I need a new battery?  Do I need to download drivers?  I'm not very computer literate but I can follow directions!

Thanks!

Thank you for this info!  I have a 1501 with a nasty virus, so I thought the lag time was due to the virus.  I reformatted and ran numerous scans; virus gone, but he lag remained.  VERY frustrating!  I searched all over for solutions and none of them helped; software issues, indexing, accessibility options, nothing worked.  I thought I was going to have to send it in for repairs, but I found this post and rebooting without the battery worked!!!  I have just re-installed the battery and it's still working great.  I do need a new battery as it's no longer keeping a charge for more than a few minutes, but at least I don't instantly lose power if my cord comes loose (it does this occasionally).

M, it's been my experience that you need to replace the batter about once a year and I had to replace my power cord after two years.  My laptop is about 3 years old and it's ready for a new battery again, but the 2nd time.   I don't know anything about drivers, but I believe if you click start, right click my computer, properties and select the Hardware tab then click on Device Manager then click the +sign next to Battery, you can then right click on your battery and select Update Driver & it will search for updates.
