Keyboard "fn" key is stuck

Every time I press a key that has a "fn" alternative (example: J = 1) the alternative comes up.  So a simple word like "hi" comes up as "h5".  Now if I hold down the "fn" key then the word is correct, "hi".

This started when the cover to my "P" key broke.  I used it for a few days with a broken key and everything was fine, include the P except their was no cover.  Then after a few days the problem started.  I called Dell and they told me that a new keyboard would fix it.  Nope, they were wrong.  Then they had me go through some mind numbing things till he finally gave up and told me the motherboard has to be replaced.  I informed him the the problem did not exist in safe mode so he changed his mind on the motherboard and told me to do a system restore.  I didn't do a system restore but I did do a Windows XP install/repair and the problem still exists.

I have seen most of the posts similar to this issue and have tried everything except the bios update.  I figure if it works in Safe Mode then it can't be the bios or hardware it has to be in Windows XP.

Does anyone have an idea what I can do????

Ok, so much for my logic.  I flashed the bios up to A22 and the problem is resolved!!  Any idea why Safe Mode and Normal Mode react differently to the BIOS?

Yeah. I had A22 and started having this problem for no reason at all. Upgraded to newest A23 bios and everything is fine. This problem is quite insane, being that the w2k login window wouldnt have the FN key problem, but after logging in, everything was jacked up... Completely random.
