integrated webcam not detected on XPS 17 (L702X)
On Windows 8.1 64bit the integrated webcam does not appear in the device manager. Any software that uses webcams does not detect the webcam. It has been working until recently. Drivers & Downloads in Dell support does not offer any help since no drivers appear for the webcam. It seems to be a bit stupid since it recommends me to install things already installed. Or even nVidia graphic card controllers some years old!!. "My Dell" application does not offer the posibility to test the webcam, just the mic. Therefore none of the solutions I have read here are of any help.

fjmv,
Did you recently install/reinstall the operating system? If yes, did you install the Dell System Software(if applicable) and the chipset drivers first? If not, the rest of the drivers will fail to install. How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order
Windows 7/8 is supposed to provide the webcam drivers for most Dell computers. If you system needs webcam drivers, go to Drivers & Downloads enter your service tag, then select your operating system. If your system needs webcam drivers, they'll be listed under Input.
(Windows 8)How to make the webcam work with help from this youtube. You have to open the Camera app first, and then click Settings on the charm bar to see where you can give the app permission to use the webcam.
Try reading...
Troubleshooting the Dell Webcam and Dell Webcam Central Software
You can try this file, also known as Dell Webcam Central.
Create a new unrestricted user account and try the webcam. Did the webcam work?
If yes, log out and log back in to your account and try the webcam. Did the webcam work?
If no, then the webcam became detached from the motherboard, usually near the webcam

fjmv,
Did you recently install or reinstall the operating system?
If no, I have seen the webcam come loose from the top of the screen, near the webcam. It happens because it's where most people open the laptop in this area.
I can assist you in better details if you explain if you installed or reinstalled the operating system or not

Hi Rick,
Thanks for your help, I installed Windows 8 some months ago, so I do not think that is the problem.

fjmv,
This is Windows 7 64-bit and needs to be installed in the Windows 7 Compatibility mode
Dell System Software Utility
Windows 8 64-bit drivers
Intel HM67 Chipset Driver
JMicron JMB389 Card Reader Driver
Windows 7 64-bit drivers Renesas USB 3.0 Host Controller Driver
Windows 7 64-bit drivers Quanta H.264 Integrate Webcam Driver
Dell Webcam Central Version 1.40.05
If the webcam does not work after installing the drivers in the exact order, then my guess is the webcam came loose at the top of the screen, near the webcam. Below is a video on how to carefully remove the plastic bezel around the screen.
Remove the top two Philips screws, at the top of the screen. Unplug the webcam, then plug the webcam back in. This should bring the webcam back to life.
