Inspiron Laptop is getting stuck at the Dell logo

First, I have a Dell Inspiron 11 3147 that is running Windows 10. I have had it since December, 2014, and it has worked well until now.

I tried to start the computer earlier today, and it struggled. It booted, but it took about 5 minutes and none of the icons showed up, and the computer told me Windows was not responding. I waited for a long time, but nothing happened. I restarted the computer a few times, but this kept happening.

Then, it couldn't even make it to the desktop. Every time I restarted, it got stuck on the black booting screen with the Dell logo. I pressed F9 and attempted to reset the computer several times, but each time, it came up with the error, "There was a problem resetting your PC. No changes were made."

I tried restarting a couple more times, then the computer couldn't even make it to the F9 screen.

I also ran diagnostics, which told me that everything was good, but it failed to completely check the hard drive.

So I don't know where to go from here. The computer can still make it to diagnostics, the F2, and F12 screens, but that's about it. Also, when the computer is stuck at the Dell logo screen, the screen goes black about every minute, then returns right to the Dell logo within a few seconds.

I hope I provided enough information. Can anyone help?

Hi brennan_hall,

It seems like OS corruption. I recommend you to run a custom test on the Hard drive which takes longer time than the Pre-boot System Assessment which you have already performed on the computer but it will give the accurate result.

To run Custom test please press ‘Esc’ key during the ePSA diagnostic test and select the hard drive and give check on Through test then click on Run for the test.

Hi, Ravi,

I ran the test, and this appeared:

How should I proceed?

Contact Dell support with the exact error message and they'll arrange to replace (or send you) the drive -- your hard drive has failed.
