Inspiron 5100 Video Card Upgrade?

Hi,

I have a Dell Inspiron 5100 laptop that I take everywhere with me. For some time I have wanted to upgrade the graphics card as that is the only part of the laptop not cutting it lately. I was wondering if there is a recommended card to upgrade to and if it is possible to upgrade to the ATI 9700 Mobility card?

Thanks,

Ryan C. Moon

The fastest card you can use is the Radeon 9000 from the 5150. The nVidia 5200 from that model won't work with the 5100, but the R9000 will.

Given what people have said, use the 32M card - the 64M card has stability/reliability issues with the 5100.

The card is proprietary, and there is nothing better.

I also have the i5100 with the 64mb radeon 7500. So swapping to a 32mb radeon 9000 would be a good choice? I remember reading about the 64mb 9000 having some problems with the i5100. Just want to play BF2!! Thanks

Battlefield 2 isn't going to run decently on a Radeon 9000, even if it had enough RAM, which that dosen't. (In fact, I'm not sure it would run at all on a Radeon 9000...dosen't BF2 need PS 2.0?)

I have actually already upgraded the ram in my 5100, but the video card has always been the performance bottleneck. I'd like to be able to run WoW on lowest settings amongst other things, thus my interest in upgrading.
