Inspiron 1750 - Hard Drive Crash (Windows 7)

After windows 10 auto install I uninstalled it and then couldn't access the wireless network. After researching and talking with Dell support, they recommended back-up files and created a reboot disc and reinstall default configuration from factory. I did all that and now my system won't load Windows. Black screen with curser in upper left corner.

NOW, I read that Windows 10 was NOT tested or recommended for my model!! Not happy!

Hi SOBE-IT,

Many old systems are not compatible with newer technologies. While you might still be able to install the OS, it might not be stable.

Having said this, as advised by ejn63, run the diagnostics and if it does not find any errors, then reinstall the OS that was shipped with the system. If the system is under warranty - download the OS image here - http://dell.to/1JsMeJg

If you do not have the OS media and if there is no warranty, then you could order the media here - http://dell.to/1vnT6CQ

Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name and Email) for case records.

Let us know if you have any other queries.

Press F12 at powerup and boot to the Dell diagnostics - run an extended test on the hard drive.

All these systems were past the warranty period when Windows 10 was released. They will run Windows 10 fine and most the system drivers will be inbuilt or obtained via Windows 10 Update. A few Windows 7 drivers such as the Card Reader and Dell Quickset may be required.

Run the F12 preboot diagnostics as ejn63 recommended.
