Inspiron 15 5000 2-in-1. Underside speakers not putting out sound.

I just bought this Inspiron laptop and it has been great. I noticed that there are three speakers under the laptop. 1 is long located by the hinges away from the user while the other 2 are smaller and to the left and right closer to the user.

Recently, I was watching a movie and found myself turning the volume all the way up because the sound is very dim. I turned it upside-down and noticed only 1 speaker was working, the front left. Because the sound was up all the way on the audio settings, this was causing a very loud pitch to be emitted when listening to anything.

Does anyone else have similar problems? I am thinking about taking the laptop in to get it fixed. Before I do, I wanted to see if anyone had suggestions based on their own experience or whether I should check into software issues (i.e. missing a driver).

Hello. the best bet is to just reinstall the audio driver. if doing that doesn't make the sound come out right, then get it repaired.

If you want a link to the driver, reply back with the model of the laptop (Inspiron 5568, 5577 etc. All Inspiron 15" 5000s have 55 in the 1st 2 digits of the 4 digit name), and the operating system if it is not Win10.

Does your laptop look anything like the picture below? It is the base of an Inspiron 5578. The section that is circled in red is the air vents for the heat sink.

Make sure you check volume settings on things other than the computer.  If you are playing a video, that player probably has a volume setting.  As jimco mentions, I get no sound from the rear opening.  Most of it comes from the front (bottom) speakers and possibly from around the keyboard.

On my 17 inch, it gets so loud playing local music, at even 50% settings, I have to turn it down.

Thank you, the picture you posted below is very helpful. This Inspiron is the model 5578. So now I know the back is a heat dispersion vent. However, the right speaker still is not putting out any sound. Is it recommended to reinstall driver or take it in for a fix?

The problem I have with the driver is I currently have Real Tek Audio, and I do not want to download a manufacturer driver and lose the software I have currently. I have had problems with this in the past with Dell.

Run the ePSA or PSA audio test as explained here. It is a hardware test, so if you don't hear the tones or beeps in the right speaker during the test, it means there is a problem with it that cannot be fixed with a driver or other software.

Well, the drivers that Dell supplies for your laptop are all Realtek drivers -- Dell doesn't write the drivers. There are a half dozen versions, the latest being this one. If you installed it and didn't like it, you could use "rollback driver" to return to the previously installed version. But if the speaker fails the PSA test I wouldn't bother with the driver.
