how to change user name?

Hi I have a M1710 XPS laptop and was wondering how do I change the main user's name on the laptop, example, when I put my laptop on hibernate and turn it back on, it asks for a user name and password, the username is default as "Tim" even tho that is not my name, I want to change that default name to something else, is there a possible way of doing this? Thanks!

thanks for the quick reply tiger, but the "user accounts" does not effect it at all, the user account has my name on it but it still says Tim when I try to log in windows. I am running XP SP2 btw. also another example is when i open a folder and it shows the path, it would look like this "C:\Documents and Settings\Tim\My Documents\My Music" where it says "Tim" i want to change that to another name, is that possible?

It may vary depending on your OS and how it's configured, but you should be able to rename accounts in the "User Accounts" control panel in XP-should be similar in Vista.

Depending on how familiar you are with the registry i would back it up and search for all options containing Tim, see what path they had and maybe change it that way. A bit risky....

It should.  I just double checked on mine, and it does change the log in name. (Depending on how you log in the old name might still appear in the username box the first time you log in with the new name.) The actual folders used aren't changed as that could break installed programs, etc.

The easiest/safest thing to do if you want those changed would be to create a new account with the name you want, copy over files you need, and delete the old account.
