Connect an external monitor. If it shows a good image, the screen is faulty and needs to be replaced.
If it shows the same fault, it's the video chip that's bad and the mainboard will need to be replaced.

I've tested connecting it to Sony TV via hdmi cable and the output image is fine without any split like it is in the built in display. So is there no way I can fix this without changing the display?
