Help! Piece of charger stuck in computer

I began receiving an error on my screen saying that the AC power adapter I was using was incompatible and could not charge my computer. After disconnecting the charger from the laptop, I realized that a piece of the charger was stuck in my computer. I have tried pulling the piece out with tweezers, pliers, really anything that will grab onto the piece, but I am afraid of possibly breaking something when I pull on the piece as it is stuck in the power jack. I found a video online of someone changing out the piece that you plug the charger into the computer (I think the charging port is what it is called), but I am afraid of breaking something if I try to do this myself and honestly do not know where I could find a replacement piece. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Nicole

Hi Nicole,

Please provide the laptop model number so that I will check if I can find any images or videos to replace the charging port. On few laptops replacing only the DC-in-module will fix this issue, however on few laptops the mother board have to be replaced.

Hi Nicole,

Sorry about the delay. The number you have given is not the system model number. I would request you to please provide the service tag which is a 5-7 digit alpha-numeric code on the white sticker at the bottom, or the system model number which can be  for example: Inspiron 1525, XPS 1530, Vostro 3350, Alienware M17x etc

If the system is not under warranty, you could also contact Dell Spares and Parts on 1-800-357-3355 or call Out of Warranty repair on 1-800-288-4410 (For US customers only)
