If not Detected:
Restart the computer and tap F2 at Dell logo. Now tap F9 to Load defaults.
Now Save and Exit.
If the hard drive is detected, change the boot order in BIOS.
Restart the computer and tap F2 at Dell logo. Now select”Boot”. Change the first boot Priority to Disk drive not hard drive.
Now tap F10 to “Save” the settings and Exit. Restart the computer with bootable media in Disk drive.
Awaiting Response.

Unplug the system, remove the battery and remove and reconnect the hard drive. If it's then seen, press F12 at powerup, and run an extended diagnostic.
If it's not, it's toast - you'll need a new 2.5" 7- or 9.5 mm SATA notebook drive.

If you're under warranty, call Dell for a replacement of the drive. If not, you need a new 2.5" 7- or 9.5 mm SATA notebook drive. You can install it yourself or have a shop install it for you - and computer repair shop can replace a hard drive.
