Fingerprint Reader under Windows 8 64bit - Dell E6500
Has anyone been successful installing fingerprint reader on windows 8 64bit?
I have successfully installed Dell ControlVault fingerprint reader driver for device with hardware ID USB\VID_0A5C&PID_5801&REV_0101&MI_00, but I am not able to get this working. When I want to use Dell app, I receive error while I try to import my fingerprint. When I install only driver and try to use windows fingerprint utility it is not able to find any readers.
Is there any updated version of Dell app for Win8 or is there any workaround for this?
Thanks
Jan

Hi,
Latitude E6500 has UPEK TouchChip Fingerprint Reader. The drivers for Windows 8 are not available on support.dell.com for Latitude E6500. To know more about the system tested with Windows 8, you can refer to link: http://dell.to/TNPbdQ
You can try installing the driver compatible for Windows 7 from the link: http://dell.to/TjnXLt
Once the driver is installed, download and install the Control point security application from link: http://dell.to/Rhck87 . This might work on your computer.
Steps to download drivers:-
If this does not work, you can try installing the same driver in compatibility mode, that may work.
If the issue still persists, you may need to get Windows 8 drivers from the device manufacturer's website.
Please reply in case you have further questions.

Thanks for advice,
now I have dell controlpoint installed, but I am still unable to set any fingers although it appears that finger reader is working, because it is prompting me to slide finger while logging on.
When I try to set fingerprints in that Dell App, nothing happens, no fingerprint tool runs. Compatibility mode doesn't help, still the same error.
It seems that this controlpoint app is not able to work in Windows 8

Hi Jan,
If the finger print reader is working and is giving you prompts to slide finger loading on, you may need to enroll the fingerprints again. You can try the following steps to resolve this issue:
1. Confirm that the fingerprint reader memory is not full. The fingerprint device is capable of storing 21 different fingerprints.
2. Make sure the correct user name is entered for the person trying to log in using biometric authentication.
3. Ensure that the finger being used is not injured.
4. For the most accurate scan, follow the recommendations below when swiping the finger:
Please reply with the findings.

I'm pretty sure people don't want to install the Embassy suite, it is bloatware when used with Windows Xp, Windows7 allowed using the fingerprint scanner with the Windows Biometric Framework, so onlyt needed the fingerprint driver and the Broadcom enrollment application, this was much better ...
Windows8 the driver obviously works, but the broadcom application fails to enroll properly, it goes through the motions, but afterwards nothing is enrolled.
Could you investigate an updated version of this that works under Windows 8?
