Do you need a surge protector when using AC adapter?

My daughter is taking her Inspiron 3800 to Costa Rico and was told to use a surge protector. Does the AC adapter block have any surge protector properties?

Thanks!

I'm not sure about if the AC adapter has surge protector properties because dell often has the travel surge protector auto selected when you buy a computer (although it may just be a useless thing to sell for money) but I always use a surge protector with my laptop at home.  You never know what can happen over the power lines and I think it's better to be safe then sorry.  Anyways look into getting one of those small travel ones.  Just a quick search and I found something like this:

If u don't need all the extra plugs I have seen small ones like that with just surge protection.

I think it is definately worth getting just for that extra protection. I try to use one whenever I can just to be on the safe side of things.

You can find quite a few different models out there that come at a very good price. Some have extra features like line in for your telephone, etc..
