Dell XPS L501x won't boot, battery light keeps staying on.

Hello,

Yesterday I decided to renew the thermal past of my laptop. I already dismantled it before to clean the dust, so I already knew how to do it. So after I renewed the thermal paste, I tried to boot up the laptop. It was very strange, first the orange light turned on, the light that normally warns you that the battery is almost finished. And at the same time, the fan was blowing at full power. I put the battery in, and then I tried to boot again. This time the laptop hang at the BIOS screen, that one with the blue bar going from left to right. I dismantled the laptop again, because I taught I didn’t connect something properly. After I did this, the situation became worst; the laptop won’t even turn on. And as a bonus, the laptop is thinking that there is a battery inside the laptop so it’s showing the battery charging light. Because a video shows more than a thousand words, I made one that you can see here: . I don't think it's relevant, but I have a Intel i3 370m and a GT420m (Nvidia).

All tips and advices are welcome,

Thanks in advance,

Aswin

Hi Aswin,

Thank you for the video.

I am sorry about the situation. I issue could be with heat sink assembly or the motherboard has gone bad. I suggest that you contact the Out of warranty to get the system serviced. The number is 800-288-4410 if you are in US region, for UK region the number is 844-338-1000 , for India the number is 1-800-425-8045 and for Canada the number is 1-800-847-4096 .   In case you belong to a different region, let me know the region you belong to, to provide you the contact information.

Thanks for tour reply, but what do you mean with " contact the out of warranty" and " the motherboard has gone bad" ? I indeed am out of warranty, it has been more than 2 years that i bought the laptop. I live in the netherlands by the way.

Hi AswinToni,

Please contact the technical department in your region and the contact # is 020 674 4500.

The reason why you were referred to speak to Out of warranty department was because you need to pay for the parts and service (Motherboard/heatsink)
