Dell Studio Laptop Touchpad

How do I "turn off" the touchpad on my Vista machine so it doesn't interfere with my wireless mouse?  Thanks.

The solution for me was to get into the C:\ProgramFiles\DellTpad;  Click on the tpad executable.  THIS is where I was able click on "Device" (upper left icon) and ultimately was able to click on the box to "Disable the Tpad" .......  Thanks for reminding me that if you search more thoroughly in your hard drive directory structure you'll find one labeled DellTpad.  From there it was an easy solution for me.

Thanks, Rick, for persevering.

bunnanny,

Double click on the little touchpad near the clock. You should then see...

Click on Driver Select. You should then see...

Check the box, Disable Touchpad / Pointing Stick when external USB Mouse is present.

 bunnanny,

My Studio 1737 Vista Home Premium has the Dell Touchpad near the clock.

The icon between the green one with bars and the orange Avast Virus icon.

Maybe you need to install the Dell TouchPad software. What model is your Studio?

My laptop is a Studio 1735, purchased in Oct. of '09.  The touchpad works fine;  however, I want to disable it so it doesn't continue to interfere with my Logitec wireless mouse, which also works fine.  The problem is ...  as I'm typing, the touchpad makes the cursor jump to a different spot on the document.  I can't find any place to access ANY screen that will allow me to disable the touchpad.  It's maddening!!!  i suppose my next step is to contact Dell tech Support?!!

There is NO "little touchpad" near the clock(a digital time on the far right corner of the task bar).  I'm using Vista Home Premium on a Dell laptop.  Where, exactly, are you finding these blocks of information on the PC screen?

I usually move the pointer up to the top[ of the page and out of the way so it doesn't start typing the l;etters where I do not want them.

Hi ssusuper,

You can install the touchpad driver for your computer from the link: http://dell.to/Rk2wjx

Steps to download drivers:-

  • Click 'Download file' to download the list to a folder you will designate.
  • Click 'Save'. Then designate the folder you would like to save the files to.
  • Once you have designated the folder you would like to save your files to, Click 'OK'.
  • Selected downloads will automatically start downloading. Next is Installation.
  • To start installation, Click Open folder. Right-click a downloaded file and select the option to ‘Run as administrator’.
  • A small window will appear with 'Continue' and 'Exit' buttons, click 'Continue'.
  • In the Select the folder where you want to unzip the files to window, click OK.
  • If a message appears asking to create a folder, click 'Yes'. If a message appears asking to overwrite the folder, click 'Yes to All'.
  • In the All files were successfully unzipped window, click OK.
  • A new window will appear, follow the prompts that appear to finish the installation.
  • Restart your computer.

Please reply with findings.
