Yes you can install a backlit keyboard. The socket for the keyboard light is in the exact spot as most Dell Computers The reason most people believe you cant install a keyboard light is that it cant be seen because of a thin plastic sheeting covers it. With a Dremel tool or with a soldering iron.( Dremel tool preferred ) you can cut a 4 inch square opening in the plastic panel The plastic sheeting is not a part of the strength panels so it has no effect on the structure stability. Simply look under that plastic panel with a mirror or tip the computer you will  see the socket for a keyboard light.( For Dell Inspiron 7010 )

I think you'll find the Inspiron systems don't have the socket for a backlit keyboard - you need to move up to an XPS to get that option.

Did you find a backlit keyboard for your Dell N7010?  I would like to have one as well, but can't seem to find one.

That is correct you can not install a backlit keyboard on this laptop (Inspiron N7010).  Here is a video on how to replace the keyboard in this unit.  When i made the video I did not see the connector needed for the backlit keyboard.

Have you done the full install of a backlit keyboard for the N7010?  I'm having a hard time finding the right keyboard for my canadian N7010.  Do you have links to where you purchased your keyboard?
