Dell Drivers and Utilities Disk

Dell sent me a "Drivers and Utilities" disk for this 17R 5721 laptop.  So far I have not been able to locate instructions.  Looking at the folders on the disk, there is a folder with the name ZIPFILES.  Just looking at the names of files in this folder causes the system to appear to run to extract them - - somewhere.  Since I have no instructions I don't know what this may be.  So I'm looking for information on this disk, to try to make the most of it.

The PC is a Windows 7 64 Bit laptop, 17R 5721

Hi tom,

Please follow the steps mentioned below to use the driver’s disc.

  1. Close any open documents, files and applications.
  2. Insert the Dell Driver & Utilities CD into your computer’s CD/DVD-ROM drive. The disc’s Dell splash screen appears automatically. If the splash screen doesn’t appear, click “Start,” “Computer,” and then double-click your CD/DVD-ROM’s icon to access the files on the disc. Double-click the “Autorcd.exe” file to launch the disc’s main program.
  3. Click the “OK” button after the Dell splash screen appears and follow the on-screen prompts. The disc installs setup files the first time you insert it into your computer.
  4. Click “English” or the language to use from the “Language” menu when prompted. Click “Next” to launch the disc’s system scan utility. The scan utility starts scanning your system for drivers, driver issues and hardware configuration settings and issues.
  5. Click the down arrow next to “Topic,” “Operating System” or “System Model” and click the driver to display the driver’s status and information.
  6. Click “Install” to reinstall the driver, if needed. Follow the on-screen prompts to install the driver from the Dell Driver & Utilities CD. If the disc tells you that the driver is not available, click the directory name within the driver information dialog box to manually search for the driver. The disc displays a list of files related to the driver. Follow the prompts to install related files.

Refer to the link below to install drivers in correct order for issue resolution.

I appreciate this response and will be trying to use the disk as shown.  I do wish there were instructions like this with (or on) the disk.

If the Device Manager does not show any errors, is anything else required, or are all the drivers and settings OK?

Hi tom,

If the device manager does not show errors that means all the drivers are installed. But, some would require specific vendor drivers as native drivers from the operating system would not give all the features for a particular hardware.
