com ports

I have a 610 laptop and need to use a usb device with the lap top. I have the cables and software with the device but to my dismay the software on the dell don't see the device.....On top of this the software that I was given for the device only goes from com 1 to com 4......How do I relate the com ports to the usbs.......so that the installed software talks to the device.....I new at this so go easy on me

What do you have? com ports and usb ports are totally different. A usb device will not work on a com port, unless you have a serial to usb adapter.

Some serial to USB devices need a driver. Google for it and you will find a generic one.

I have many legacy devices that need this same stupid driver.

Good luck
