Changing screen resolution in Inspiron 1011
I just purchased this netbook largely so I could run Street Atlas and its associated GPS. However, the program demands a better than 800x600 resolution and all Dell seems to offer on the primary screen is 1024x576 and 640x480. I know it's a small screen but this is absurd. Can anyone offer a work around?

Use an external monitor - that's the only way. Netbooks are not notebook substitutes - they're fine for what they are, but they're not notebooks.

There is a new utility to allow you to change the DPI on the 1011. However, Dell issues a dire warning not to use it if you do not have 1024x600 as a resolution option. Unfortunately my only option seems to be 1024x576. Windows XP complains loudly every time I start up, offering to increase the screen resolution. However, there is no choice. DPI is 96, also unchangeable.
Resolution could certainly be just a tad higher, so far as I'm concerned. I wonder who has 1024x600?

I just got an Inspiron 1011. By default it was set to 1 Plus and Play Monitor Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset Family (Under Display tab). The only 2 options are 1024 by 600 pixels and 800 by 600 pixels. I have another option 2. (Default Monitor) on Mobile Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset Family. This shows different resolutions, but not all work.
