Can you use a desktop mouse with a laptop?

Can a desktop mouse be used for a laptop, say an Inspiron 6400?  Or does the mouse have to be a laptop specific mouse?  Is there something specific that makes a laptop mouse better for a laptop?

Any mouse will work provided you have the correct hardware (Serial; PS/2; USB; Infrared) that is compatible.  Simply choose the mouse that provides the most comfort and/or ease of use.  As always, you may have to install drivers for your operating system to make use of all the features a mouse may provide.
