Brand new XPS 9560 shows 90% battery health

I ran a diagnostic scan the day after I received my new XPS 15 Kaby Lake laptop and noticed the battery health is at 90%. I think it it should be 100% for a new computer. However the BIOS says the battery health is excellent. Which do I believe and has anyone else experienced this? I'm ready to return it. Thank you.

Please click on the link below and expand 'System Utilities'. Under Dell Command | Power Manager, click on Documentation, HTML, and then check Battery Information.

Thanks.  I downloaded it and it was already set to Adaptive with a battery health rating of "Excellent".  So what does the 90% mean then?

It means the battery is operating at 90% of its maximum ability.  It's not uncommon for a new battery to need a few charge-discharge cycles before it reaches its maximum capacity level.  Brand-new batteries are shipped partially charged -- they are never fully charged until the user puts the battery pack into operation.

You should see the capacity increase over the next couple of weeks to 100%.  Thereafter it'll stay that way for a while before the inevitable battery wear takes hold.

I have exactly the same problem as yours. I talked to the Dell support and they said that it is normal. My  laptop is only 3 weeks old, however my colleague got a XPS 15 9550 (1,5 years old) and his battery Health is 96%. Could you figure it out? I would be very thankful for any feedback from you.

Tnx ;)

Hi Reza82 :emotion-2:

Dell Support is correct. This has something to do with power management settings on the system which supposedly help extend the battery life. Please click Find It Myself and then expand System Utilities in the link below. Under Dell Command | Power Manager, click on Documentation, HTML, and then check Battery Information.

LSUFAN51 thanks a lot  for your quick reply :)

I am a little confused about the expression "Battery health". What you say is more related to the Battery capacity. Am I wrong? My battery Health is 90%.
