Best Laptop Cooler

First off, just want to bring out a big HOWDY to all peeps here. I'm new to this forum and hope you all welcome me here :)

I've just bought myself the impressive XPS M1730 8800GTX laptop, and I am expecting to receive it the 26th. :smileyhappy:

I want to get a laptop cooler to this computer, but what kind should I get? There is several coolers out there, but i've narrowed it down to:

Thermaltake Tai-Chi M+ A2420                            Zalman ZM-NC2000

Thermaltake                                          Zalman

What do you guys think is the best, and why?

(Edits: Tried to get the pics to work properly..)

Never owned one, but the bottom one already has problems. The M1730's vents are close to the screen, but the holes on the bottom one is close to the bottom. So if I was going to buy one or the other, I would choose the top one.

The Zalman seems to be the most recommended by gamers.

I bought a non-fan chill pad which keeps the fan clear on the bottom to allow circulation and it has reduced the temperature levels.

The key is to keep the vents clean and unobstructed.

Can somebody recommend a laptop cooler for a M2010?

As was mentioned the fans in this unit are near the back end of the bottom and will hang over both of theses units so the fans will not put any air into the computer.  I use a LAPcool 5: http://www.modders-inc.com/reviews-story--143.html.  It is a dual fan and a usb hub.I travel alot and like the small size.  The only real non use for this one is actually on you lap even though you could do it.  I play on a solid surface so it does not bother me.  One thing to keep inmind though is to run it upside down because the fans draw down.  It works just as well upside down and makes a nice angle on the computer and keyboard.

On the bottom of the page in the link is another chill pad that I own and love.  it does not fit the 1730 because the fans hang over the back but for a smaller laptop it is the best.

Acording to the paper, your statement is incorrect..

The XPS M1730 is 302,6 mm long. The Zalman cooler is 318 mm long, the Thermaltake is 330mm long - so it should fit just nicely... However if you actually seen it in real life, and it don't fit, im wrong..

Only possible "problem" I can see is the width, but that aint no real problem, is it?

If you look at the Thermaltake you will see it has  rest in the front that actually sets the laptop further back when you put it on the rest.  This causes the computer to hang off the back which is not an issue but the fan location in the computer will not line up with the fans in the cooler.  The other pad can be used as long as you slide it forward enough to allow the fans to line up.  So even thought the units are close in physical dimensions the location of the fans is the critical factor, because if they don't line up you might as well just prop the back on a book.  Remember the fans are on the bottom almost all the way to back edge.  The Zalman can be used if you slide the laptop forward.

This is not an argument it is just make sure you take everything in to account when buying the cooler.  This computer is expensive and I want mine to live.  I had one like the Thermaltake and when I switched I shaved 10-20 °  off my normal operating temp with the LapCool.

Here is a link to the bottom view of the laptop:  http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/xpsm1730/en/om_en/html/about.htm#wp1148091

Remember the air is drawn through the bottom and exhausted out the back.

Guess I go for that one then... only problem is the size that your LapCool don't have...

I use the Zalman laptop cooler for my XPS M1710 and it fits perfectly and does a good job cooling it especially for gaming, I play hours of counter strike source and world of warcraft and as far as I can tell, it stays decently cool, when I didn't have the pad, it was hot to touch, now its just warm most of the time. Hope that helps!
