Backlit Keyboard on Inspiron 14Z n411z
I recently purchased a N411z 14z laptop and at the time there was no option to buy with a backlit keyboard.
Anyone know if one is available to buy as a part and swap with existing? I can't seem to find a part number but
for the standard keyboard. TIA

I called Dell parts and they say that there are no backlit keyboards for the n411z 14z. I did check ur link and it shows for other Dell models, 15z etc.... with the part number PVDG3. Wonder if they are interchangable and does the n411z MB have a port for the power connection? Could you let me know if when u get yours that wether it installs and works?
TIA, Dan

Backlit keyboard p/n PVDG3 is the keyboard Dell parts and service says is for the Inspiron 14z (n411z). I received the keyboard and installed it in the Inspiron 14z (n411z). The keyboard is dimensionally the same as the original and the keys are labeled the same with the addition of the Backlight function on the F6 key. Whereas the original keyboard has black keys, this keyboard has dark gray keys. The gloss black background between the keys is the same. The keyboard ribbon cable fits into the same keyboard connector and the backlight ribbon cable fits into the existing backlight connector that was previously unused. The ribbon cable connectors flip up to release the cable and after the new cable is fully inserted flip down to lock it in place. Make sure you orient the cables so the contact pads are down (the keyboard cable is marked "UP" on one side to help but the backlight cable is not marked). The keyboard works fine and the Fn F6 Backlight key toggles from Off to Low to High on the backlight intensity. The characters on the keys are illuminated and some light leaks from around the keys especially on high but it looks good to me on low. The keyboard that comes on an Inspiron 14z (n411z) from Dell may or may not be this keyboard but this one does work and is available from Dell Parts and Service. Hopefully this information will help others looking to retrofit a backlit keyboard on the Inspiron 14z (n411z).

I called Dell parts and service twice (on separate days) looking for the backlit keyboard part number for an Inspiron 14z (n411z). Both times they provided the same part number and price. A google search shows this part number is a back-lit keyboard so I'm thinking it is likely the correct answer and ordered the keyboard yesterday:
PVDG3 Keyboard,86,United States,England/English,C12SB
Per the service manual <ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell> the back-lit keyboard has an additional cable to connect for the keyboard-backlight.

I recently purchased the PVDG3 for my new Inspiron 14z. When I bought the laptop I didn't select the backlit keyboard. That was a mistake since the keys are not bright white and can be difficult to see them. The PVDG3 fitted perfectly and was easy to install. There are 4 intends along the top of the keyboard. I found that the easiest way to release the keyboard is to use a very small precision screw driver that fits down to the right of the black plastic holder and the silver bottom part of the keyboard. By gently twisting the screwdriver the keyboard popups out. It can then be lited onto the palm reset where the mouse is. The keyboard connector can be released and the new keyboard installed and connected to the dedicated power connection below the keyboard connection. The laptop recogonised the keyboard. Overall I am really happy with it but it can only be set to Dim or Bright. It would be nice to be able to adjust it from 0 to 100%.

I asked Dell parts department today - via web chat - they said this is a part for Asian market. Also, the part number does not show up in a search on Dell's US web site. HOW DID YOU ORDER THIS AND WAS IT ORDERED IN THE US?
Thanks

hoanghuynh83,
Some models are Fn and arrow, some are F6 and you can change the settings at...
Start, control panel, Windows mobility Centrer.

hoanghuynh83,
Go to Drivers & Downloads enter your service tag number. Under applications, download and install Dell Quickset.
Does it appear now?
There should be a big wire and a little wire that needs attached. The little wire is tricky to attach.
