anyone know how to set up a wireless printer?

I have a Dell Inspiron 5100 and an HP printer. i have wireless internet access set up for my house. How do I set up my printer so I can print to it without having to plug it into my laptop? The printer doesn't have wireless capabilities built in. Can I just plug it into the wireless router? Thanks for the help.

Is the Printer plugged into a networked PC? If the answer to this is yes you need to open the printer and share it, you may have to load file and sharing also. Once it is a networked printer via the pc it's plugged into your wireless laptop should be able to add it to printers, this is how mine works at home on my Dimension 8200 which is networked and an HP 4 and 1315 are plugged into it and my Inspiron XPS prints to it just fine wirelessly. Good Luck.......

Your printer probably doesn't have an ethernet port, so you can't just plug it in to the router (unless the router has a printer port).

You can purchase a wireless print server, connect that to your printer and then access the printer wirelessly.

I'm running an HP deskjet 6122 with a linksys wps11 wireless print server at home.

One thing you should be aware of, those utilities HP provides to, for example, check the ink level in the printer won't likely work with a wireless setup. One reason is that the utilities are generally for a printer connected to a computer, the other is that the print server will probably only be a one way device.
