Hi,
Thanks for writing to us.
There is usually an emergency-eject hole or button -- usually on the back of the drive.
It should help you eject out the disc.

Your suggestion will not work because there is no eject hole in a slotted DVD/CD drive. I managed to get the disc out during the powering down of the laptop.
Be aware that it is not possible to eject a disc during the installation of software on a new hard drive with no Dell software on it when you have to change disc. The only way I was able to install the software and swap disc was to purchase an external DVD/CD drive and connect it to my laptop.
My discovery of this problem has convinced me that I'd be a fool to purchase another Dell computer with a slotted DVD/CD drive.
