Wireless mouse freezes and keyboard sticks

I use an attached keyboard and mouse with this laptop. If they are wired, they work just fine. Wireless devices don't work fine. A wireless mouse with suddenly freeze for a few seconds, then jump around the screen, making it totally frustrating. I've tried several different mouse brands, new batteries, and latest drivers without success. Any wireless keyboard will suddenly put a couple dozen copies of the last character that I typeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. Again, fresh batteries and latest drivers make no difference. It doesn't matter if they're plugged directly into a USB port, or into a port on a dock.

A wired mouse and keyboard works just fine. 

Any suggestions before I see how well this laptop works as a frisbee?
