can you run the installer again and let it fail
Now open event viewer and check the error code/message for installation failure.
Post error code here

Support assist is not a necessary App for windows. You can skip it. Time for a new computer or upgrade to Windows 10.
Windows 8 is no longer supported fully. See your download page-

If it can run Windows 8.1 64bit it can run Windows 10 64bit. Why are you punishing yourself? I'm running Windows 11 on a 2012 vintage Latitude E6530 and it runs as good as the previous installation of Windows 10. This machine originally came with windows 7 pre-installed.

With windows 8 and 8.1 Dot net framework is bugged
Check for windows update and see if under optional update you are getting Dot net framework or not

@Mary G and if you have no desire to upgrade ? Windows 10 is already on the way out and Microsoft are pushing 11.
Increasing profits by planned built-in obsolescance, perhaps ? Besides, Tried 10, didn't like it and it will NOT run my collection of old games. XP, Visa, 7 and 8.1 all do it for me!
