User Profile service failed the sign in

I have a DELL inspiron 7306 laptop. All was working good. We decided to give it to another family member. I wanted to do a total fresh reinstall of windows. Went through the usual process of resetting the PC.

However, after about 10mins, it went back to the original user login screen. When I put in the password, I am now getting the following error:

"The User Profile Service service failed the sign-in"

Therefore, I seem to be totally locked out & am unable to get back into Windows at all. I have checked some online stuff, but they seem to refer to fixing this problem within windows. There was only this one user account and since it seems corrupt & I can't get into Windows, I can't try and fix it the way some suggest.

Since I was trying to do a total Windows reinstall anyway, is there maybe a way to reinstall windows through the BIOS and use the hard drive's recovery area? If so, how? Or is there maybe another easy way to fix this login issue?

@ieee488 is spot on with the information. In addition you can try this web page at technewstoday. Also have you tried downloading the media creation tool here and it will create a bootable Windows 10 installation flash drive. You can clean install with that flash drive.

So, I finally got around to this again. I wound up getting back into the computer by signing in with my wife's hotmail password. I thought all was good, but it appears there is some sort of corruption as I am continously getting this screen when turning on the laptop:

I will simply close the window and it brings me to the desktop with those 3 icons. While the laptop basically functions (internet, email, etc), I can add more icons as needed, but once I restart the PC, it returns back to this screen with the 3 icons again.

Therefore, this tells me I really need to do a full resinstall of windows but the laptop's repair image is damaged.  I have created the bootable Windows media as needed (on a USB drive), but when I boot into the USB drive and attempt to resinstall, I can't as there is no visable drive to install it on. Here is a screenshot of what I am referring to.

Does anybody know how to get this DELL laptop (inspiron 7306) to be able to see the drive properly in order to install media from a USB drive?

Well, after a few hrs and the help of Youtube, I was FINALLY able to figure this out. Basically, it required me to obtain the right storage driver from Intel's site. Here is where I got the right driver:

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/19512/intel-rapid-storage-technology-driver-installation-software-with-intel-optane-memory-10th-and-11th-gen-platforms.html

Since this laptop has an Intel, I downloaded the 3rd file. After downloading the file, I unzipped it to a USB drive. When needed, I then browsed for it. Once the correct driver was loaded, I was then able to see the drive and all the partitions as needed.

One other note though. All my partitions were initially locked with Bitlocker. In order to proceed, I had to delete all the partitions and all worked great. I was able to continue with the Windows install. Since I was doing a total fresh reinstall, I didn't require any data from the laptop, but if you need to obtain data, you will have to find some way to turn bitlocker off outside of the Windows environment.

I hope this helps others.
