No Audio Output Device Installed

I have Inspiron 15 5567 Windows 10 64 bit . Yesterday my laptop was on sleep for about 2 hours, later when I opened it, the volume symbol on the left at the taskbar had a red cross along side it which showed no audio output device installed. There was no audio at all when I played some videos or songs. So I followed the discussion at Dell Community and the solution given by Chinmay-S actually worked. But today again after starting my laptop from almost about a 2 hours sleep, it is showing the same problem, I have already tried the solution i.e installing the audio driver but it is of no use now. Moreover in the device manager there is no option for Sound , Video and Game Controllers.

Thanking you in Advance

Go to Start > Windows Administrative Tools > Services and start (or restart) the Windows Audio service.  Also confirm that its startup type is set to Automatic.  If this is a routine issue resuming from sleep, have you verified that you reinstalled the latest version of your audio driver?

1.Run the Microsoft Sound Troubleshooter

1.1 Click Start, and then select Settings (gear icon).

1.2 Click Update & Security and select Troubleshoot.

1.3 Click Playing Audio and then click Run the troubleshooter.

1.4 Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the troubleshooting process.

1.5 If the audio playback issue persists, go to the next step.

2.Uninstalling and Reinstalling Audio Drivers Manually

2.1.Open the Device Manager from your Control Panel

2.2.Under Sound, video and game controllers, look for Realtek Audio

2.3.Right-click and uninstall the device. Please check the box next to 'Delete the driver software for this device’

2.4.Ensure Windows updates are up-to date

2.5 Download & install the latest Audio drivers from Dell.com/Support

If the audio playback issue persists, go to the next step. Use the "Get Help Now" option at the bottom right to start a LIVE chat session.

If still under the purchased warranty, click the "Get Help Now" icon on the right to start a live chat session.

Ensure that you keep your System Service Tag handy.

Thank you for your message.

This seems to be an issue with the audio driver.

Restart the computer & tap F12 to run a hardware diagnostic, check the Quick audio test & check if there is audio here, this will confirm the physical speakers are fine.

Check the BIOS version installed.

For my reference, please click on my Dell username & send a private message with the service tag, registered name & email address.

Try plugging in a headphone or earbuds, so that it can identify some audio output momentarily, and then you can take them out and things should be back to normal. Sounds weird I know lol but it's a quick fix that often helps, especially when your drivers are up to date and everything else seems fine. It's an intermittent issue that comes about every now and then, mostly after shutdowns or sleeps.

I don't understand how the suggested solutions worked for anyone. For one, accept the first one (doesn't work for me either), all the others are re-posts of the same instructions in different ways, almost like click bait. How does updating a driver work, if the issue is that the driver is not there (installed)? Can someone help me fix that problem? The driver is not there & my volume is not working. That is my issue.

Thanks a million! The Techworm article detailing how to reload the system device driver for Audio worked. In the case, it was the "High Definition Audio Controller" (which had a yield sign next to it). Laptop is older M4800 running Windows 8.1 and sound quit after cloning/installing a new SSD hard drive using Acronis software.
