Need upgrade suggestions for Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming

What upgrade advice would you give for this laptop in order to increase performance and also can increase the storage space? specifically, the SSD which is where I have all program files stored and it keeps filling up. Can I upgrade to a larger SSD?

I mainly use the laptop for college stuff. sometimes video editing with adobe products. web browser. etc...

I run 3D Mark since this is a gaming laptop and I got, Time spy score  2096, Graphics 2036, and CPU 2522. Let me know if you need to run some other tests and what apps to use to get an idea of the laptop's current performance.

The current specifications of the laptop are as follows, let me know if need more details.

  • Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming (Intel) - 7567
  • 7th Generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700HQ Quad Core,CPU @ 2.80GHz, 2801 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s) (6MB Cache, up to 3.8 GHz)
  • 16GB, DDR4, 2400MHz
  • OSC(C:) = 128GB SSD
  • DATA(D:) = 1TB 5400 rpm HDD
  • NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) GTX 1050Ti with 4GB GDDR5
  • 74 Whr, 6-Cell Battery (Integrated)
  • System Type x64-based PC

Depending how many windows you have open during editing, you could increase to 32 GB of RAM. Generally 16 GB is enough for general use but not knowing how intensive your editing, etc. may be 32 GB would be future proofing the system.  And also go up to and including a 2 TB M.2 SSD. Crucial has examples of those components here.

Which is better in terms of performance, the Samsung evo 980 pro or the crucial p5 plus?

right now am only leaning towards the evo 980 only because that free migration tool Samsung provides.

Keep in mind that your system supports Gen 3 M.2 and not gen 4. So installing either of the drives you mentioned will not give you their maximum performance. I would instead go for the Samsung 970 if a Samsung is what you are leaning toward. There is no point paying more for technology that your system cannot utilize. The Samsung software also is available for the 970. And with RAPID mode, which uses some system RAM as a cache, the performance will be better than the Crucial.

Hello JOcean,

Does memory brand matter in terms of performance? and is it ok to mix to different brands? my laptop came with this RAM can I get a different brand to max out my 32gb capacity? like the one in the link you provided which is the crucial 16GB DDR4-2400 SODIMM.

Or get 2 sticks of the crucial 16gb?

Thanks!
