Inspiron black screen, no Dell logo, no BIOS access

Hello,

I have an old Inspiron 14R 5420 and after a sudden electricity failure and return (it was connected without battery), it does not show the logo or can get into the BIOS, just show a black screen, no beeps, but the fan is running.

I’ve researched the Dell support pages and followed all the recommendations without success.

After that, I’ve cleaned the two Ram cards and Ram slots and the computer started again, but only for a brief period, after that it freezes and can not start again. Sometimes, if I clean the Ram cards again it will start, but if I try to reboot it will go to the black screen again. I’ve tried other Ram cards but the problem persists.

Thanks for any help,

Reset:

Unplug the system, remove or disconnect the main battery and hold the power button for 30 sec.

Then try powering up on AC only.

If you still get nothing, the mainboard is toast.   On a system that's about eight years old, that may not be economically wise to replace (vs. a system replacement).

Thanks, but as I've stated above, the computer doesn't even get to BIOS. I have Linux installed for years without an issue

This seems to be an issue with the Windows OS. Has there been any recent software changes made like installing a new game, application or Windows updates?

Restart the computer & tap F2 to get into BIOS & set BIOS to defaults.

If the system still does not boot, try a system reset. When you see the Dell logo power off the computer using the power button. Turn it back on & power off again using the power button when you see the Dell logo. Try this for 3-4 times &the system enter the advanced repair options where you can reset the system back to factory settings.

Please note- There are chances that you may lose all data.

Thanks,

I've read in a forum that if I remove the Ram sticks and the computer beeps, the motherboard would be working, and it does beep. Also, when I boot pressing D, the video test works, but no Logo, just a black screen after the test.
