Inspiron 5510 laptop no Ethernet port

My new Inspiron 5510 laptop is expected today. Looking at the specs, I've realized that there is no Ethernet port on the new laptop. (yes, I know, I can connect to wifi, but I believe in hard wires).

My question to you is- If I connect via hub like this   which means the Etherent is "brought in" by USB, how does the computer know that this is the Ethernet port? Isn't it looking for the network through a specific port? Can I tell it/configure it to know?

In situations like these, if there is a wired Ethernet network available you can connect to it using the USB-A or USB-C port on your laptop and a USB to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter. Plug the adapter into your laptop's USB port and use a Cat5e/6 Ethernet patch cable to connect the RJ45 end to the network.

Thanks again Adrian.
It has worked like a charm. This little hub just arrived. I've plugged the RJ45 end to the network and to USB 3 onto my new Dell 5510, and walla- all works well (direct wire to Ethernet and my wireless is off- no more prying ears...).
Can't be simpler.
