Inspiron 3793 - SARemediation folder taking over 21Gb on C: drive. Running Win 10 home version 20H2

Hi

Inspiron 3793 - SARemediation folder taking over 21Gb on C: drive. Running Win 10 home version 20H2

The following folder is taking over 20% of my C: drive, leaving only 5.5GB free.

c:\programdata\dell\saremediation\systemrepair\snapshots\backup

How can I clear this, or preferably delete it completely.

I have tried freeing up space from Settings with no difference.

Thanks,

Ernie

Good Afternoon,

I also am using a Dell Inspiron 3793 which only arrived on January 9th 2021 and has a C:\ driver SSD partition, and has only 11GB of free space left of a 99GB, and this is after i set Windows 10 to move pagefile.sys of 6GB to D:\ drive.

When the laptop first arrived, we had around 55GB of free space, and after installing Microsoft Office 2010 Pro and a few bits of software like Defraggler, by mid week it dropped to 5GB.... Im experienced IT person and ive not had so much space just vanish in recent years. I also installed Norton 360 Antivirus when the laptop arrived so i expect its less likely to be a virus.

C:\System Volume Information\ = 10GB
C:\Recovery\Customizations\Apps.ppkg = 6GB
C:\hiberfil.sys = 3.2GB
C:\Windows\ = 26.7GB

While writing this message i have been looking at the amount of data used on the C:\ drive, with the files visible and unhidden, including system files. With all directories selected accept C:\Recovery\ and checking folder properties, i am only using 43.6 GB of storage on the whole drive...

Something seems wrong, like Windows 10 is reporting used space incorrectly. or its hidding in the recovery folder, which im denied access from checking.

I can see that dell has made multiple partitions on the hard disk, invisible to the average user, but they are there, but C:\ should be 99GB....

So Ernie, your not the only person having some storage issues.

So after a closer inspection it seems that Windows is using nearly 16GB for System Volume Information, which relates to Windows 10 System Restore, not that it seems to be enabled...

Dell is using 7.1GB for the recovery folder.

Then 10.8GB for System Repair.Treesize - Dell SARemediation.png

Another 1.8GB for Program Files.

And out of the expensive fast SSD Drive storage they have a re-install partition are nearly 18GB out of the 119GB original drive.

It may be possible to recover some of this data space, but before removing any dell software or making changes, it would be best to consult with dell as it may affect your warranty.

I have 10GB left now, and i don't have much installed in the C:\ drive, so i can understand why some negative comments have appeared for this laptop.

On a positive note, i have the 1TB D:\, which is why i never worried about the negative comments, and i can install large programs there instead, along with the the pagefile.sys.
I also like this laptop alot, and selected it with care, it runs great, and ive not suffered any performance issues, its well balanced and all rounded laptop, with many performance and hardware features.

Ill try to recover some data storage from windows, and report back my findings.

Hi Nikhil,

We have been receiving alerts for this below path:

File
C:\ProgramData\Dell\SARemediation\dellsupport\apps\bin\osri\audit\audit_util.zip\PSTools/PsExec64.exe
PsExec

Is this running by DellSupport team ?

Thanks,

Shravan
