How do I upgrade my Inspiron 5559 to use Windows 11?
I have an Inspiron 5559 from 2016.
I would like to upgrade the hardware to be able to update to Windows 11.
Can someone please let me know what hardware I need to buy/replace to be able to do this?
Also, do you know if I can switch to an SSD hard drive?
Many thanks in advance, sincerely,
Joanie

You cannot upgrade the system to meet Windows 11 requirements -- though you can install Windows 11 without TPM/supported CPU (at least at present -- Microsoft has stated it may release updates that enforce the CPU and TPM requirements in the future).
You can install either a 2.5" SATA SSD or a SATA (NOT NVMe) M.2 SSD.

You cannot upgrade a laptop's cpu. Just stay with Windows 10 since it is supported until 2025. You will have a windows 11 computer by then.

What's the rush for Windows 11?
Microsoft will continue to support Windows 10 until 2025.

Thanks for your answer. I have another newer computer with Windows 10, an SSD and compatible with Windows 11, but I don't want to update that one... I wanted to use my older Inspiron laptop to get to use Windows 11 and test it and get used to it for my clients who get new computers now, as they come with Windows 11.

TPM is best described here and it stands for Trusted Platform Module. More than likely you have TPM 1.2 but not 2.0. Could you install Windows 11 yes, but it does not meet the minimum requirements as specified by MS as you have a 6th gen CPU. There are many videos on YouTube describing how to install Windows 11. I have an old Latitude E5430 and find it runs just fine. But down the road MS has stated that updates will not be available for unsupported hardware and eventually they could prevent those systems from running Windows 11 forcing a reinstall of Windows 10.

Buy a SSD.
Remove the HDD.
Put in SSD.
Install Windows 11.
If you need to go back to Windows 10, just take out the SSD and put back the HDD.

Thanks for your answer, I'm in no rush, my current laptop has Windows 10, an SSD and is compatible to upgrade to Windows 11, but I don't want to upgrade it just yet. However, I want to test Windows 11 to be able to help my clients who are getting new computers now with Windows 11.

Thank you for your answer.
Sorry I don't know what TPM is. Can you explain? - CPU I know.
So I can replace the hard drive, that's good news because it's so slow now, I keep reinstalling it regularly. I will see how to proceed. Thanks again.

You should bypass CPU check, Dell specs 6th Intel Gen, Windows 11 specs minimum 8th gen, you can change to cpu i5 8250U

Not possible - the CPU cannot be upgraded, and certainly not to anything subsequent to the 6th generation the system now has.
