Getting error 2000-0712 when powered on but shows no issue in Dell diagnostics

I've had my Dell Inspiron 16 plus for less than a week now. When I power it, the preboot check says fan malfunction with error code 2000-0712. The solution suggested was to check for any obstruction in air vents and update BIOS. Air vents are open and I updated the BIOS. I ran dell hardware diagnostics from the boot menu and it says no issue with the hardware. But I keep getting this error.

The laptop is not overheating. It's a bit warm on the bottom side. No heating issues when I play games. I ran stress tests for CPU, both intel integrated and Nvidia GPU. Tests came fine and no overheating.

Also, I only get the error when I shut down the laptop and switch it on. The error won't show when I restart.

My guess would be that on a cold boot the fan is running slowly or starting slowly or even possibly not starting up immediately. That would give the intermittent error you see. When you run diagnostics is it from a cold boot or after the system has been on for a while (a restart)? If you call Dell tech support they will probably run diagnostics and find no problems either but it may be worth a call. Short term keep an eye on it as it will probably become more troublesome if the fan has a problem.

If you're encountering error code 2000-0712, here are some steps to help you troubleshoot:

Workaround 1:

1) Access the BIOS (when you turn on the device, click on F2). Inside the BIOS go to the SYSTEM LOGS> BIOS EVENTS tab and click on "CLEAR LOG".

2) After logging into Windows and quit Dell Support Assist. Reinstalling Support Assist again, please click here to download.

3) Run the test within Support Assist and check if the error recurs.

Workaround 2:

If you find it doesn't work on your PC when use workaround1. Dell recommends that you update your computer to the latest BIOS available. For more information refer to Dell Knowledge Base article Dell BIOS Updates.

The error shows only when I shut it down, let it be for some time and then switch on. I haven't had the error when I shut down and immediately switch on. So it makes sense that the problem occurs during cold start. I called dell support. They said they'll get me a fan replacement.

Thanks for your reply. Anything else I might have to look out for in this case?

A fan should do it but post back after the fan replacement as I am curious to see if that is the cure.

I got the fan replacement yesterday. Since then, I haven't had any trouble. I will update here if I find any issues in the future.

Thanks for your help.
