Fingerprint device not found - Inspiron 7591 2-in-1

I just purchased an open-box Inspiron 7591 from a big box store.  It is not obvious from the keyboard markings, but I found in the user manual a few days after my purchase that the power button is supposed to have a fingerprint scanner. When I tried to set up the fingerprint to sign into Windows, the sign-in options screen says, "We couldn't find a fingerprint scanner compatible with Windows Hello Fingerprint."

I checked the Dell support page and filtered downloads only for my service tag. There is a Goodix Fingerprrint Sensor Driver listed under the Security section, but when I attempt to install it, I get an error stating, "Goodix fingerprint device was not found!"

I have seen several other posts in these forums that sound like they are describing the same issue, but there isn't any real solution.  One person posted that their fingerprint scanner had stopped working, but then started again after they booted to the BIOS setup, made no changes, then rebooted the computer.

Upon receiving my newly purchased laptop, I ran the Dell recovery assistant to reset to the factory install, and I've installed all available updates from Dell Update and Windows Update.  Windows 10 Home has been updated to version 20H2 (build 19042.685).  I wasn't aware of the fingerprint scanner prior to running the updates after the factory reset, so I don't know if the fingerprint scanner was detected and working with the original Windows build. There are no biometric devices listed in the Device Manager.

I found the issue after completely disassembling everything to get to the power button.  The cable that connects the I/O board on the right side to the motherboard was disconnected.  This disconnected cable would have also affected the 2 USB ports and the headset port on the right side, but I didn't test those ports.

Once everything was reassembled, the fingerprint scanner/power button is working as expected.

The sensor is optional on these systems - and apparently your system does not have the option.

You can confirm by using the  look up of the original specifications by service tag at support.dell.com (under "original configuration".

I don't know why it took me so long to realize this, but the power button is not working all all. It powers on when I open the lid, but that explains why I've had issues waking it from sleep a few times.  I have had to close and reopen the lid to wake up the laptop.

I guess I am going to have to refer to the service manual to check the internal connections. Hopefully, it is that simple and I don't need a replacement part for the fingprint reader/power button.
