Dell Inspiron 3511 Hinge Break causing bezel to buckle

Ok guys, what I'm posting I HOPE helps others.  My aunt bought a Dell Inspiron 15 3511 over a year ago, but didn't buy the extended warranty cause she though Dells where 'solid'.  WELL, I'm here to say that this is no longer the case.  Her 3511 broke at both left and right hinges on the lid (back cover) side buckling the bezel.  All 6 of the screw mounts in the lid side broke out.  After knowing Dell wouldn't do ANYTHING outside the warranty for her, I ordered the lid cover, bezel and new hinges first thing as I knew there is a lead time with getting the parts in and not paying an OUTRAGEOUS amount of money for these parts.  After I disassembled that laptop, pulling the hinges out and reviewing the hinges.  I found it pretty dang hard to work the hinges by hand.  I'm a 280lb guy and not weak ;).  I found these hinges have been torqued WAY TO TIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!   This, coupled with the fact that the plastic mounting points on the back cover lid for the hinges are in no way reinforced to handle the amount of pressure it takes to work the hinges.  Because of the excessive 'tightness' of the hinges and the lack of steel support on the lid of the hinge mount, the plastic mounts break at the plastic mounts on the lid side.  Depending on how often you open/close the display, this will eventually fatigue the plastic mount points and it will break.  SO this goes back to bad quality control on the hinge torque and engineering on the lid.

1. the lid side should've had better support for the hinge screw mounts.  Metal preferably, not plastic...

2... the tightness (torque pressure) to operate the hinges should have been tested better in the first place.

This is CLEARLY a manufacture defect (either by design or quality control or both) and Dell should make good on this and fix any and all issues with this for free regardless of warranty coverage or not.

I will say this, the hinges ARE adjustable to lessen the 'tightness' (torque pressure) so the that plastic mount points are no longer stressed as much and should allow for much longer use without breaking the lid mount points.  Please note that if you do decide to adjust the hinges, you do so at your own risk because loosening the hinges too much can cause adverse affect of the display possibly flying open being too loose or not holding the desired position.  Care must be taken if you attempt this. The hinges must have enough pressure to hold the display up the desired position yet still be easy on the mounting points.

Are you serious.? Even I just faced this issue with my dell inspiron 3511.. I will have to go to the service centre tomorrow to know until when my issue will be resolved or how much I will have to spend.. This is seriously disgusting as we purchased so expensive laptop but not getting the fruit from it. I am also facing the same issue within a year only

I have a similar issue with the bezel.  I purchased 2 inspiron last christmas (2021) as Christmas presents for my children and both had experienced the same issue.  The first one broke while it was under warranty so it was repaired at no cost.  The second one, just broke and it is 2 months out of warranty.  I was a loyal dell customer (2 xps15) IMG_0524.jpg

I just had the exact same problem with my Dell G3 15.  I hardly ever open and close it, as it just sits on my desk, and it's only 2 years old.  This is ridiculous and a complete design disaster for Dell, as it's happening across a broad array of their laptops.  Looks like a recall should be in order.  I have owned Dell computers for 20 years, never again!
