Have you tried to insert the backlight ribbon in your ODD (optical disk drive) Socket? Does it work?

Please provide details from where you bought the backlit keyboard.

Do anyone already try this? I hope it works. I am going to try it on my laptop. I think is ODD socket is too wide anyway for the backlit

worth a try

Both with and without backlit models have same motherboard so I don't think it's Limited by BIOS.

OEM part for backlit Keyboard.

I'll take mine to pieces tomorrow, I really wish I'd taken some pics when I swapped out the drive for a SSD and increased the RAM on day 1 now to save me having to do it again just to take a look inside.

Oh well.

Stripped mine down this morning and gave it a clean and fixed a hinge, I can't see anywhere to plug in the extra ribbon cable for a backlit keyboard unless someone can point me in the right direction?

The standard keyboard only has one ribbon cable, it looks like a backlit keyboard has 2 ribbon cables.

It suggests to me that it's not possible with this model unless the OP can let us know otherwise.

I asked this question myself and was told that the core i3 model was not offered with the backlit keyboard option so it is not possible on this model because there is no connector on the mobo for the backlight ribbon, however the core i5 model was offered with one so it does have the connector. I have been looking into whether I can install a core i5 mobo in a core i3 laptop. They are physically the same size and it looks like they mount to the chassis identically but I was told by some guys in another forum that it may or may not work depending on what if any other hardware differences there are and that one has to be careful when buying used laptop parts because not everybody knows exactly what they are selling and most of them do not offer returns and there can be malware on a mobo RAM module and even in the processing stream which could infest another machine if it was installed and turned on so I just don't know if I'm going to bother pursuing this any further. I have a newer laptop that does have a backlit keyboard and I also have little lamps that plug into the USB port and there are small stick on ribbon lights that you can apply strips of at the top of your screen bezel which have a little "visor" to keep them from shining in your eyes and which also reflect the light downward toward the keyboard. That's what I have gathered on this issue from people both here and in other online forums for Dell computers. Good luck.

P.S. The other laptop I purchased is an Inspiron 2 in 1 14" 7000 series. Go to Amazon or most any other reputable online electronics retailer after the holiday season and they sell upgraded laptops that weren't sold off during the Chrismas shopping season for cheap. I got this one at the end of January last year for just over $500 and it has an extra storage drive and memory upgrade from the exact same machine that sells for $1100 retail from Dell. It was in a standard shipping box from the Philippines so I'm guessing they buy them in bulk straight from the factory and throw in a cheap hard drive and memory module and get a premium for them during holiday shopping but they don't sell them all before Christmas and that is perfect for me!
